Archaic maharanis used to pair their French chiffon saris with fur coats and Cartier jewellery. Their style was a blend of western design sensibility and eastern exoticism. They were women of power who wore elaborate costumes and adorned themselves with intricate jewellery, had the exposure to best books and arts.
I have read about a hundred books on them and have been obsessed. When I pair my Kutras with my trousers, wear my silver earrings and anklets and head off to work, I feel no less than a chic maharani. It’s quite empowering.
My aim is to put Indian and western elements together to create my own unique style without breaking the bank.
